All of the room's occupants were confused by the cryptic words. Sensing as much, Hyukjae looked up in Ryeowook's direction and slowly opened his eyes.
"Oh, my God," Junsu muttered, breaking the stunned silence as they were all met with Hyukjae's blank, lifeless eyes. "You're blind."
Ryeowook was the first to react, reaching into his bag and pulling out a small penlight. Clicking it on, he slowly flashed the light into Hyukjae's eyes, frowning when he saw no reaction.
"You don't see anything at all?" Yunho asked as Ryeowook put the light back in his bag.
"Have you always been blind?" the young doctor asked as he checked the young man over.
"You saw just fine when you were young," Junsu pointed out, still holding his friend's hand.
"The powerful vision I mentioned? That's what did it."
Yoochun spoke up. "How can a vision do that?"
Hyukjae sighed, leaning against Junsu for comfort. "My visions aren't images. I see them in colors and emotions. I don't know what the colors are
, since I can't remember what any look like, but I can feel them."
"And how did that make you blind?" his best friend asked.
"It was an optical overload. I was too young, and the vision was too powerful for my eyes to handle."
"Does my father know?" Junsu asked. He swore when he saw his friend's nearly imperceptible nod. "And he still shut you in here?" Determined, Junsu got to his feet, pulling Hyukjae to his as well.
"But where?" Ryeowook asked as he too, stood, followed by the two bodyguards.
"Do you know anything about this guy?" Yunho asked.
"He's northwest of us."
"Then that's where we'll go."
"I'm going with you."
Everyone looked at Ryeowook in shock. "Wookie? Why do you-"
"I won't work for a man that would lock up a child. Besides, I wanna make sure Hyukjae's really okay, and the only way to do that is to go along."
Yunho looked at the doctor for a minute before sighing, a fond smile creeping its way onto his face. "If that's what you want to do then I won't stop you, but I'm not letting you three go without protection." He turned toward Yoochun, who just blinked owlishly. "You up for it, Chunnie?"
"Me?! Why me?!" the brunette cried.
"Changmin's still in training, and I have to stay here and do damage control," Yunho explained.
"What about Jaejoong?"
The head bodyguard quirked an eyebrow. "Think about it, Chun. Every maternal instinct he claims not to have will light up at the mere sight
of Hyukjae." He leaned closer and added, "And don't think I don't know about your little crush on Junsu. This is your chance." He chuckled at the blush that colored his friend's cheeks.
"That was low, Yunho..." he sulked, crossing his arms across his chest childishly for effect, causing the older man to chuckle.
"I'll stay here while the rest of you pack some clothes and things. Everyone hurry and meet up at the infirmary," Yunho stated. Everyone nodded and dispersed as Yunho and Hyukjae remained. "Do you need any help packing?"
"No, I'll be fine, but what time of year is it? Will I need warm clothes?" Hyukjae asked as he walked over to the closet after grabbing a bag by the bed.
"It's summer, but I'd bring a few sweatshirts with you anyway, in case of rain."
Nodding, Hyukjae returned to packing. He was just zipping up the bag when he asked, "How did you get in here?"
"You mean your room?"
"Yoochun used to be a thief when he was younger. He's an extremely talented lockpick." He paused. "Sorry we never did this earlier. I couldn't let Junsu's father know, or he would've had Chun arrested."
"I understand," the teen said, smiling slightly.
"You ready?" At his nod, Yunho walked over to him and bent low. "Throw your bag over your shoulder and hop on. I doubt you really need help, but we're in a bit of a hurry." After a second, the young man climbed onto Yunho's back, held securely by the bodyguard.
As Yunho rose and ran out the door, closing and locking it behind him, Hyukjae asked, "Does Yoochun really have a crush on Su?"
Yunho couldn't stop the laugh from coming out. "That boy's been in love with Junsu since he first came here. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if that was his whole reason for being here in the first place. Did you hear me and him?"
"Yeah. My other senses are a lot stronger, but my hearing is prob'ly the strongest."
"And by the way, Su likes him, too. Won't shut up about the hot guy that he wouldn't mind guarding his body...it's getting kinda annoying, actually..."
They were lucky that the floor was empty, meaning no one heard Yunho's bellowing laughter echo through the hall.
"Hey, Yoochun. You ready?" Junsu asked as he stood outside the guard's room. When he got no answer, he opened the door. "Yoochun, are yo-" All words suddenly flew from his mind. Yoochun was standing in the middle of the room, pants only half done and resting low on his hips as he tugged a red fitted shirt on over his head.
Yoochun turned when he realized that he wasn't alone. "Sorry, Junsu. I was kinda stuck in my shirt for a moment," he chuckled, flattening out the few wrinkles before fixing his hair, redoing the ponytail. When Junsu still hadn't said anything, Yoochun frowned, walking over and waving a hand in front of the younger. "Hey, Su. You okay in there?"
Junsu jumped, realizing he'd spaced out. "I'mfine!!" he yelped, jumping back at the closeness, face bright red.
Yoochun released another chuckle before slipping his shoes on and grabbing his bag, along with Junsu's, making him blink in surprise.
"I can carry my own bag, you know," he argued feebly.
"I know, but I think you'll have your hands full with your friend. Remember that he hasn't been outside of that room in years. And he's blind, on top of that."
"We'll be walking, and not always on flat trails. We may end up having to help him, or even carry him when the ground gets too bad," the guard explained, laughing when Junsu caught on, mouth forming an 'o'.
They were half way to the infirmary when Junsu spoke again. "Sorry about all this, Yoochun," he mumbled.
He turned toward the younger man, shock and curiosity in his eyes. "Sorry for what?"
"Having to come with us."
"Don't worry about it, Su. I don't mind at all. Yunho just caught me off guard, is all."
"Positive. Besides...Yunho's a convincing little bastard..." He rolled his eyes affectionately.
The two had reached the med ward soon after, Entering, they saw Ryeowook giving Hyukjae a quick physical, Yunho standing guard inside.
"How is he, Wookie?" Junsu asked, crossing the room and grabbing his friend's hand.
"Aside from the blindness and the fact that he's horribly underweight, he's in perfect health," he answered, packing his most important and necessary tools into his bag. "I am
worried about how his body will handle the trip, though..." he added.
Yunho looked at him. "How so?"
"Well, while he's in good physical condition, he's never had the chance to run, walk long distances, things like that. I'm not sure how his boby will handle the exertion."
"Well then, I guess we'll just have to help, huh?" Junsu exclaimed brightly, tightening his hold on his friend.
"Yeah, Hyuk?" he asked, not liking the hesitance lacing the boy's words.
"Is this really a good idea? I mean, I'll only be a hindrance," he muttered, trailing off. "Maybe I should just stay here."
"I refuse to let you near that room ever again," Junsu stated with such conviction that it startled the room's occupants. "We're going, you're coming with, and you have no say in the matter."
"What about your father?"
"That man is not
my father. I won't have anything to do with that damned old man for what he did."
"Su-" He stopped short, unseeing eyes scanning the room, or better yet, what was beyond it. "He's moving."
"Who? The person we're looking for?" Ryeowook asked, receiving a nod in return.
"He doesn't seem to be much older than we are...his emotions are all over the place...not as controlled as someone older."
Yunho moved from the door. "Are you all ready?" At the nods, Yunho led the group out of the infirmary and to the main doors, where a shorter, beautiful man stood watch.
At the sound of the opening door, the man turned and practically faceplanted in shock at seeing the large group, all carrying equally large bags.
"Yunho, what the he-mmmmmppfff!!!" he tried to shout before Yunho's hand shot to cover his mouth.
"Listen to me, Jaejoong. I'm gonna let go, but you can't scream bloody murder, you got it?" He nodded, but when Yunho let go, he was met with a fist to the stomach, causing him to double over, a good portion of air forced from his lungs.
"Don't just grab a guy like that, Yunho! I'm your hyung, for God's Sake!"
"I-l'm your boss," he forced out, slowly straightening, despite the pain.
"Boss, schmoss. You could be the king of the fucking world
for all I care, just don't grab
me like that," he barked, luckily quietly enough to not draw attention.
"Stop overreacting, Hyung," Yoochun sighed, throwing his bag over one shoulder and holding Junsu's in the corresponding hand.
"Where are you guys all going, and who's he?" he asked, looking at Hyukjae.
"We have something to do, and he's the only one that can tell us where to go," Junsu stated.
It only took a second for Jaejoong to catch on. Naturally large eyes widened to epic proportions as he pointed to Hyukjae, mouth opening and closing like that of a fish. "You're-" He turned toward the top floor, long deep brown ponytail whipping behind as he pointed. "But he's-" He returned his finger to the younger boy. "And you-" He blinked. "Are you blind?" he asked, voice suddenly warm and gentle. He was given a nod in return.
Yunho had been right. His mothering nature appeared the moment he looked closely at the boy.
"How old are you?"
"Um, eighteen," he mumbled, moving closer to Junsu, not used to loud people like Jaejoong.
"And do you ever eat?! You're so small!"
"He's taller than you are, Jae," Yunho pointed out.
"Yeah, but probably almost 10 pounds lighter!!" he exclaimed, trying to further examine the young man who was now hiding behind Junsu.
"Hyung, leave him alone. You're freaking him out," Yoochun said, rolling his eyes at the glare that was shot his way, far too used to them after the few years they had been friends.
"Anyway," Yunho interrupted. "Jae, they're leaving, okay? And we have to pretend we don't know a thing."
Suddenly Jaejoong backed up, looking at the group in confusion. "Huh? Know what?" he asked innocently.
And if Yunho and Yoochun didn't know the man so well, they would have believed him.
"Lift your voice a bit higher," Hyukjae said shyly. "You'll sound younger and a bit more innocent."
"Thanks! I'm Jaejoong, by the way," he introduced.
"Um, Hyukjae," he replied, bowing slightly.
As he straightened, he winced, massaging his forehead with his free hand.
"You okay?" Ryeowook asked.
"Something changed. I don't know what, but the feeling is so...numb, is the best I can come up with." He turned toward Junsu. "We need
"You guys go on. We have things handled here," Yunho said before turning toward Ryeowook. "Be careful, okay?" he murmured, eyes averted.
The young doctor smiled sweetly. "Same to you," he said as he leaned over and placed a kiss on his cheek, making Yunho turn a light shade of red.
Laughing, Yoochun turned to Hyukjae. "You good to walk a bit?"
"Let's wait til we're further away. I'll just get distracted with the feeling of everything," he replied.
Junsu crouched down, allowing his best friend onto his back. When everyone was situated, they walked out the door.
